Final seminar of the Hybgen project presents conclusions of the initiative funded by the EEA Grants Fund for Bilateral Relations

The Hybgen project, funded by the Bilateral Relations Fund, took place in 2024 and held its final seminar – the HybGen Joint Seminar – on October 24, where the results of a comparative study between Lisbon and Oslo were presented. The study focused on the hybrid lifestyles of young adults, considering the challenges they face in housing, employment, and mobility.

Several key themes emerged from the Roundtable Discussion with four invited experts. It was concluded that more flexible policies are needed to support young adults in entering the labor market, accessing housing, and adopting more sustainable consumption patterns, through alternative and combined forms of mobility and fewer long-distance commutes.

Given that the built environment and existing regulations are currently quite rigid and do not respond well to the new needs of young adults, it is essential for policymakers, practitioners, and experts from multiple disciplines to work collaboratively and in an interdisciplinary way to understand and address the challenges this population faces.

Future measures should include the collection of data on their patterns and habits, with the aim of enabling fairer, more inclusive, and more sustainable lifestyles in cities such as Lisbon and Oslo.
