GlobOcean

The GlobOcean project aims to make known, in a simple, but appropriate and correct way, the World Ocean Assessment report. This document, carried out by the Joint Working Group on the Regular Process of the United Nations General Assembly, results from the first major assessment of the state of the Ocean, the overall assessment of the state of the marine environment, including socio-economic aspects on a continuous and systematic basis, providing regular assessments at global and supra-regional level and an integrated view of environmental, economic, and social aspects.

Despite its relevance as an assessment document of the state of the Ocean, from which the strategies and action plans for the Ocean should be thought, the document, eminently technical, lacks a strong outreach campaign, that can reach public and private decision-makers and general society. Thus, the project aims to bridge the gap, transferring the scientific knowledge presented to a more accessible language and disseminate its results so that it can be useful in defining and programming actions.

Project activities include: 

• Creation and compilation of a collection of thematic information sheets following the essential topics of the report, which will be the basis for awareness-raising pedagogical materials.
• Production of illustrative and more accessible infographic films and their dissemination to the target audience (decision makers and managers) and other audiences, including teachers and students of higher education schools.
