Presentation event of the projects “Prevention and awareness for the reduction of marine waste”

An event will be held on June 19, at the Cruise Terminal of the Port of Leixões to present the Prevention and Awareness raising projects for the reduction of marine waste

The Event falls within the scope of the Small Grants Scheme # 1 of the EEA Grants, with the presentation and dissemination of the expected results for each project.

The session will be attended by the Minister of Environment and Climate Action, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, Secretary of State for Planning José Gomes Mendes, and the Norwegian Ambassador to Portugal, Anders Erdal.

The Coordinator of the National Unit for the Management of the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area and National Focal Point, Susana Ramos, will present the EEA Grants 2014 - 2021.

The Secretary General for the Environment, Alexandra Carvalho, will present the Environment, Climate Change and Low Carbon Economy Program, financed by the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism - EEA Grants 2014 - 2021.

During the session, the main challenges of the importance of preventing marine plastic waste will be presented by two keynote speakers: Ana Pêgo, Marine Biologist at the Faculty of Marine and Environmental Sciences, University of Algarve and Founder of Plasticus Maritimus and Paula Sobral, PhD in Environmental Sciences, Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology at Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering) and researcher at MARE - Center for Marine and Environmental Sciences.

The event will start at 14:45 at the Cruise Terminal of the Port of Leixões.
