Development of nursing information in Iceland and Norway electronic health records

The most recent project of the Nursing School of Porto, the NIS ISL & NOR - Enhancing Nursing Information in Electronic Health Records in Iceland and Norway, is already under development.

This initiative aims to enhance the knowledge and usage of Nursing Information Systems (NIS) as an integral part of the Electronic Health Records (EHR) in Iceland and Norway, by implementing activities targeted to increase the understanding of the importance of the nursing electronic documentation process using the International Classification for Nursing Practice (ICNP© – developed by the International Council of Nurses, accepted within the WHO Family of International Classifications Network and recently integrated at SNOMED-CT), both in nursing education and professional practice.

This project is being developed by the Center for Research and Development in Nursing Information Systems of the Nursing School of Porto, in partnership with the Department of Health Sciences and Nursing of the University of Agder, in Norway and the Faculty of Nursing of the School of Health Sciences at the University of Iceland.

With the development of this initiative, it is intended to strengthen the collaboration between the higher education institutions of nursing in Portugal, Iceland and Norway, increasing the research in EHR in nursing education and healthcare and promoting knowledge transfer between the three countries involved and upport the development of EHR using ICNP© in Iceland and Norway, promoting a sustainable policy of implementation in the three countries, by using nursing classifications and ontologies.
