On September 9, 2021, under the project "Adaptation to Climate Change in Vila Nova de Poiares", the first meeting of stakeholders will take place in order to collect relevant information for the Climate Change Adaptation Plan for the Municipality of Vila Nova de Poiares, as well as to guarantee the participation of all, providing a democratic space for exchanging ideas and building consensus.
The project “Adaptation to Climate Change in Vila Nova de Poiares” is funded through the “Environment, Climate Change and Low Carbon Economy” Programme of the EEA Grants 2014-2021 Financial Mechanism and the September 9th meeting is intended to be a participatory process for the elaboration of the City's Climate Change Adaptation Plan.
The project “Adaptation to Climate Change in Vila Nova de Poiares” will allow the reinforcement of the strategy of Vila Nova de Poiares – continuous and integrated – and its ultimate objective is to minimize and prevent extreme weather events. The Climate Change Adaptation Plan will be developed with the aim of integrating territorial management and municipal planning and management instruments. The measures to be included in the plan will bring numerous environmental, social and economic benefits, as they act as a support tool to understand the territory's vulnerabilities.
The Municipality of Vila Nova de Poiares is also a signatory of the Pact of Mayors for Climate and Energy, assuming a commitment to reduce CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030, and is currently still developing an integrated strategy that includes adaptation to climate change.
So this will be a working session open to everyone's participation!
