Get to know the Gerês/Xurês Transfrontier Reserve

In the seventh episode of the documentary series "Biosphere Reserves Portugal", we get to know the Gerês/Xurês Transfrontier Biosphere Reserve.

In Gerês, transhumance - the seasonal movement (in December and March) of herds and populations to less harsh locations - has almost disappeared. But a mother and daughter are still keeping the tradition alive. They share this territory with the Iberian wolf and also with goats, shepherds and the art of working wool.

In the seventh episode, we visit the Gerês/Xurés Cross-Border Biosphere Reserve, the first of three cross-border reserves classified by UNESCO in Portugal. It is located in the transition between Minho and Tra?s-os-Montes, and in the south-west of the Galician province of Ourense, in Spain.
The region is cut through by several rivers that feed other rivers and streams, and is characterised by a landscape of exceptional beauty with deep valleys that cut through the mountains.
