Presentation of the project Além Risco

Last Sunday, the project Além Risco was presented within the scope of World Tree and Forest Day

This project, financed by the EEA Grants through the Environment Programme, and promoted by Science Retreats and supported by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Intermunicipal Community of Alentejo Central (CIMAC).

The Além Risco project aims to strengthen the capacity of local populations in Central Alentejo to adapt to the effect of heat waves on public health. The project aims to involve citizens in the planting of 50,000 trees, mostly indigenous, in the urban areas of Central Alentejo - reducing the "heat island" effect created by them.

The presentation ceremony was attended by the Minister of the Environment, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, Secretary of State for Nature Conservation, Forests and Spatial Planning, João Catarino, the Mayor of Évora and the President of CIMAC, Carlos Pinto de Sá and the project manager, Miguel Bastos Araújo.

The project has a financing of 200 000€, of which 170 000€ through the Small Grants Scheme#3 of the Environment Programme of the EEA Grants and the rest by CIMAC. You can consult more information about the project on its website.
