Weirs on the Ceira River were repaired to mitigate the consequences of heavy rains

Two weirs on the Ceira River, namely the Vale Pardeiro and Poço da Cesta, were repaired to prevent flooding. The regularization works of this river, designated as “Ceira River Fluvial Rehabilitation - Hydraulic Works”, are part of the project “Management of the Ceira River Basin in adapted to a Changing Climate”.

The rehabilitation of the two weirs located respectively in the Vale Pardeiro and Teixeira, in Arganil and between Arganil and Pampilhosa da Serra, has already been done been completed. In both sites, woody materials were removed and rocky materials were mobilized from the middle of the bed to the banks.

Specifically in Poço da Cesta, the existing cracks were repaired by placing stones that were missing from the body of the weir. In Vale Pardeiro, the vegetation was also removed and the gaps and crevices were filled with stones.

In general, the project aims to improve the issue of river flow, from drought situations to major floods. The investment in the works is around 98 thousand euros, financed through the EEA Grants program.
