What did this initiative focus on?

The CertiCoLab initiative will establish a new collaborative laboratory in the scientific field of cryptography between researchers in the Associação para a Inovação e Desenvolvimento da FCT (NOVA.ID.FCT), and in the Simula UiB research centre in Bergen, Norway (Simula UiB). The main objective is to develop collaborations for producing cutting-edge scientific research and public-domain software for developing novel secure multi-party computation (SMPC) protocols. Such protocols are already critical in data sharing scenarios, to ensure that input data remains private in accordance with privacy regulations, such as the EU's General Data Protection Regulation. CertiCoLab will specifically investigate the goal of ensuring that private inputs satisfy certification constraints imposed by wider authorities, for preventing potential malicious behaviour.
