Codfish Architecture in debate

2017 057 81 F Pesca Do Bacalhau Medium

To conclude the exhibition Our Land Is the Sea public program, this session will combine two presentations in a conversation about codfish.

9 January 2021, 11am–12:30pm (Lisbon time)

Karl Otto Ellefsen, professor at the School of Architecture and Design in Oslo, will present various stages and processes of urban development associated with cod fishing in northern Norway.

André Tavares, co-curator of the exhibition and programmer at Garagem Sul, will examine some equivalent examples of construction in Newfoundland and Portugal.

In conversation with Diego Inglez de Souza, we return to the fundamental question of the exhibition: How do environmental and ecological circumstances give shape and meaning to construction practices of landscape and architecture? How do codfish construct the space we inhabit on land

The debate will be broadcasted online in English on Centro Cultural de Belém’s facebook page.

This event is financed by EEA Grants Portugal through the Fund for Bilateral Relations.

A collaboration between Centro Cultural de Belém/Garagem Sul, Universidade do Minho’s School of Architecture and the Oslo School of Architecture and Design.
