Marine Lexicon initiative in the Ocean's Past Virtual Meeting

Marine Lexicon initiative in the Ocean's Past Virtual Meeting

During the week of May 11-15, the Ocean's Past Initiative Virtual Meeting will take place. The event that was scheduled to take place in Oostend (Belgium), was postponed to 2021 and became for the first time an online event.

The theme of the conference "Historical Perspectives on Marine Ecosystems, Fisheries and Futures" will enable a dialogue between researchers, professionals, policy makers and students from all disciplines from the unifying perspective of our oceans, such as networks of social-ecological systems or associated human and natural systems.

It is in this digital context that the team of the Marine Lexicon Initiative (funded by the Bilateral Relations Fund of the EEA Grants and CHAM – Centre for the Humanities) will present the first bilateral works for the construction of an open access marine lexicon, enabling a greater understanding of marine animals throughout history.

The Portuguese team has researchers from the Environmental History and Sea Thematic Line (CHAM) and the UNESCO Chair "Ocean’s Cultural Heritage". The Norwegian team has researchers from UiB (University of Bergen), Department of Natural History and NIFU (Nordic Institute for Studies in Innovation, Research and Education).
