Programme:

The main mission of the Porto Brandão Shipyard Museum project is the valorization and dissemination of the material and immaterial maritime-fluvial heritage of the Tagus estuary and its riverside cultures, the sustainable development and the use of dialogue and proximity with the local and scientific communities, the local authorities and the central government.

The recovery of the Porto Brandão shipyard has three main objectives:

  • Promote, consolidate and guarantee the continuity of the traditional shipbuilding techniques;
  • Promote the maritime-fluvial traditions of the region (e.g., fishing arts);
  • Safeguard the inclined Plane of Porto Brandão.

The collaboration of the project partners will be decisive for the success and guarantee of fulfillment of the defined objectives. The property is currently in an advanced state of degradation and has not been economically active for more than a decade.

It is essential and urgent to proceed with the rehabilitation of all infrastructures, safeguarding the existing heritage and promoting the creation of new functions for the space, namely the Shipyard Museum, the Eco Museum, the social and training spaces, with a restaurant/cafeteria and an interpretation center, the mooring dock and the handcraft store.

Over the 3 years of the project, and in order to ensure fulfilment of the defined objectives, we highlight the following activities to be developed:

  • Studies, Seminars, Presentation and Workshops;
  • Job Grants;
  • Online Store;
  • Reservation Center;
  • Technical Blog;
  • Shipyard Friends Club;
  • Interactive kiosk;
  • Professional training courses;
  • Leisure Activities and Summer Courses;
  • Former prisoners’ courses and professional integration (APAC);
  • Exchange with Norwegian partners.
