Photo Contest | "Biosphere Reserves

Do you like photography? Are you enthusiastic about nature and culture in Portugal? This challenge might be for you. The project Biosphere Reserves: Sustainable Territories, Resilient Communities, funded by EEA Grants, launched a photo contest and invites anyone to participate and win a two-night trip to a Portuguese Biosphere Reserve of your choice.

To participate in the "Biosphere Reserves - Photo Contest", just share a photo taken by you - in one of the 12 Portuguese Biosphere Reserves - that best reflects the essence of what these territories are. Scattered throughout the country and the islands, these UNESCO classified sites are exemplary in nature conservation, biodiversity, but also culture and sustainable development.

Participation is open and free of charge to all residents of mainland Portugal, the Autonomous Region of the Azores and the Autonomous Region of Madeira, by sharing the photo in the comment box of the publication launching this challenge on the social network Facebook, indicating the Portuguese Reserve photographed.

The challenge "Biosphere Reserves - Photo Contest" runs until September 15, 2022, on the Facebook profile of the "Portuguese Biosphere Reserves". The regulations are available for consultation through the project's website, here.

The winner will be announced on September 26, 2022 and will be entitled to a two-night trip to one of the Portuguese Biosphere Reserves, of their choice, including breakfast and accommodation.

The Biosphere Reserves are territories designated by UNESCO for their natural and cultural heritage, and have an important role in the conservation of biodiversity, in harmony with sustainable development.

In Portugal, there are 12 UNESCO Biosphere Reserves: 6 in mainland Portugal (Paul do Boquilobo, Gerês-Xurés, Tejo-Tajo internacional, Meseta Ibérica, Castro Verde and Berlengas), 4 in the Azores archipelago (Corvo Island, Graciosa Island, Flores Island and Fajãs de São Jorge) and 2 in Madeira archipelago (Santana-Madeira and Porto Santo Island).
