Awareness campaign to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic

Within the scope of the project “Para cá do Marão embalagens não!”, reusable bottles were distributed to the entire school community participating in the project, in order to encourage the consumption of tap water. This initiative is included in the commemoration of Environment Week that the Municipality of Vila Real celebrates annually

The awareness campaign to reduce the consumption of single-use plastic is part of the second action of the project: "Reduction", since it encourages the reduction of consumption of single-use plastic packaging, and also in the fifth action: “Rethink”, insofar as it enhances reflection on the benefits of drinking tap water and rewarding the school community, which throughout this school year has focused on issues of Circular Economy at School.

The installation of drinking fountains in schools is intended to promote the consumption of tap water in schools, in order to prevent the excessive use of single-use plastic bottles, leading young people to adopt new habits and, consequently, to reduce waste from single-use plastic bottles, thus creating a cleaner and more sustainable city. The drinking fountains are inclusive and have the functionality to fill bottles, and can be used by the entire school community.

The project “Para cá do Marão embalagens não!” is financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, through the EEA Grants and by the General Secretariat for the Environment.
