As part of the 'Caring Braga II' Project, financed by the EEA GRANTS – Environment Program, the Municipality of Braga signed a protocol with the Associação Florestal do Cávado, one of the 42 entities that signed this document regarding the project to combat forest fires and protect of nature, people and goods.

Founded in 1996, Associação Florestal do Cávado's main objectives are to promote unity among forest owners, as well as to offer associates technical support that allows them to better manage their forest areas.

This association makes available to forest owners and producers and its members, a wide range of technical support services, in the fundamental areas of forest management, with the aim of increasing the economic profitability of farms, through the implementation of good forestry practices.

At the moment, AFC has 9 Forest Clearing Teams and can now, with this signature, make available to its approximately 600 bio-shredder associates to proceed with the destruction of the leftovers, without resorting to the use of fire. It should be remembered that the Municipality of Braga makes available, free of charge, through the Parish Councils, bio-shredders to proceed with the destruction of leftovers.

This equipment crushes the leftovers, reducing them to chips, which can later be incorporated into the soil as a natural fertilizer, reused in composting, covering the soil or other agricultural and gardening uses.

To have access to this service, the land must be previously cleaned and the leftovers ready to be shredded. Interested parties should contact the parish council to which they belong, and inform themselves of the Civil Protection Bio-shredder service of the Municipality of Braga.
