Circular2B – Circular construction in energy-efficient modular buildings

Development of building components applied in modular construction, incorporating Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) and slag

The project Circular2B – Circular construction in energy-efficient modular buildings in the scope of the Environment Programme of the EEA Grants began on October 2020.

The development of building components applied in modular construction, incorporating CDW and slag, is the objective, allowing to:

  • Combine the energy efficiency and residue recovery, leading to decarbonisation;
  • Foment the increase of prefabrication in the building industry, to reduce CDW;
  • Optimise the available construction solutions through the Circular Economy.

The promoter of the project is the Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto, coordinated by Professor Nuno Ramos (DEC/CONSTRUCT), with three R&D partners (UTAD, FCUP and SINTEF) and an industrial partner (DreamDomus).

The Project, with a total funding of 496 390,90 € aims to respond directly to the objectives defined in the MFEEE 2014-2021, allied to existing national strategies, aligning with priority areas such as Energy, Habitat, Materials and Raw Materials, as well as Advanced Production Systems and Human Capital. and Specialized Services, through the development of waste-recycling eco-nanomaterials incorporated into high energy-efficient modular construction systems.
