The project, which will run over two years, is coordinated by the GstGroup company, together with two Portuguese partners, the University of Minho and the Instituto Superior Técnico, and a Norwegian partner, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
The main goal of CirMat, is the industrial development of innovative construction materials from construction and demolition waste and by-products, to demonstrate its application in buildings and in road infrastructures. In addition, it is proposed to communicate the environmental, economic and social advantages of this type of products / materials, namely through the development of Environmental Product Declarations.
The construction sector is responsible for an intensive use of raw materials and energy resources, being also one of the sectors that contributes most to waste generation in Europe.
Financed in 85% by the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism – EEA Grants, under the Environment Programme, the eight winner projects, chosen from 25 applications submitted, are developed in several parts of the country with an overall budget of 3,5 millions of euros.
