This project is financed through the “Environment, Climate Change and Low Carbon Economy” Programme of the Financial Mechanism EEA Grants 2014-2021, which promotes the circular economy, the decarbonization of society and the valorization of the territory, with the Secretary General of Environment as Programme Operator.
The Municipality of Vila Nova de Poiares has been promoting actions related to adaptation to Climate Change, with the objective of achieving greater energy and environmental sustainability.
In this context, the project “Adaptation to Climate Change in Vila Nova de Poiares”, aims to provide decision makers and the population in general with tools and knowledge in this area. The project will allow the reinforcement of Vila Nova de Poiares' strategy - continuous and integrated - and has the goal of minimizing and preventing extreme weather events.
The Climate Change Adaptation Plan will be developed with the aim of integrating territorial management and planning and management instruments at the municipal level. The measures to be included in the plan will bring numerous environmental, social and economic benefits, as they act as a support tool to understand the vulnerabilities of the territory.
It also intends to enhance the active and direct involvement of stakeholders and the population in general, promoting behavioral change and participation in awareness-raising actions.
