Project “Para cá do Marão embalagens não!

The Municipality of Vila Real, within the scope of the project “Para cá do Marão embalagens não!” installed and inaugurated on August 19, five Reverse Vending Machines (RVM) in stores retailers adhering to the project: Auchan, Continente, Intermarché e Pingo Doce (Lordelo e Miguel Torga).

This is one of the project's initiatives included in the "Recycling" action, which includes the installation of reverse vending machines in the main retail stores in the municipality of Vila Real, with the objective of collecting and separating PET (polyethylene terephthalate) packaging and bottles from water, juice, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages (non-dairy) and aluminum cans. These equipments manage to reduce from three to five times the initial volume of the collected packages in order to guarantee its forwarding for recycling.

By depositing each PET plastic packaging and/or aluminum cans, the user will receive a discount voucher that can be redeemed for purchases at the store where the deposit was made. For each package deposited, the following values will be returned:

- packaging and cans between 0.1 liters and 0.5 liters - 2 cents

- packaging and cans with a capacity greater than 0.5 liters and up to 2 liters - 5 cents

For the machine to accept aluminum cans and packages, they must have their bar code legible, cannot contain liquids, cannot be flat and must have a lid, in the case of PET packaging.

In addition to this information, the machine contains, either on video or on site, all kinds of information to clarify any doubts regarding its use. The email ambiente@cm-vilareal.pt is also available so that questions and/or suggestions can be sent.

The project “Para cá do Marão embalagens não!” is financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, through the EEA Grants and by the General Secretariat for the Environment.
