Project "Para cá do Marão embalagens não! ", launches a video to reduce the impact of cigarette butts and chewing gum on the environment

Project

The Municipality of Vila Real, within the scope of the project “Para cá do Marão embalagens não!”, after 8 months of installing 20 binary structures for the collection of chewing gum and cigarette butts, structures called “EcoPontas” and “PapaChicletes”, launch a video, with different purposes.

In addition to remember the existence of this equipment, it is also intended to make known the amount of material collected as well as to disclose the values that were possible to assess by the opinion collection system and/or rapid response questionnaire.

From the monitoring of this equipment, through the issues evident in these infrastructures, it was in the questions: Have you ever heard of the “Para cá do Marão packaging project”?, Do you consider these initiatives important? and Do you think there should be more cigarette butt storage? the greatest discrepancy in positive responses, with values of 60, 67 and 77% respectively. As for the questions: Do you know the EEA Grants? or Do you still throw cigarette butts on the floor?, the values are more equitable, between rates of 45 and 50%, with cigarette butts in the “YES” location.

In addition to contributing to the reduction of the impact of cigarette or cigar butts and chewing gum on the environment, it is also intended, with the dissemination of this video, to raise awareness of the entire population for the correct disposal of these products, with the ultimate purpose of adequate collection and treatment of these wastes.

The project “Para cá do Marão embalagens não!” is financed by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, through the EEA Grants and by the General Secretariat for the Environment.
