MaRvel: (Re)veiled Masculinities

D Marvel

The MaRvel: (Re)veiled Masculinities, hereinafter MaRvel, is a project that forms part of the Work-life Balance Programme, financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area - EEA Grants, being the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG) the entity operating the project and Associação Plano i is the promoter.

Considering the impact of hegemonic masculinity models on the development of boys and on the construction of social relationships, MaRvel has as its general objective the challenge of gender stereotypes associated with hegemonic masculinities. The project will last 36 months and aims to construct and implement a structured intervention program, with boys, aged between 13 and 18, hosted at the Educational Center of Santo António (Porto), the Educational Center of Santa Clara (Vila do Conde) and the Instituto Profissional do Terço (Porto). Consequently, a documentary on the subject will be produced (from a storytelling perspective, based on development and intersectional perspective), with the collaboration of the multimedia creation cooperative Bagabaga Studios, which will not only serve as a basis for the construction of the intervention program, as it will be used as a pedagogical tool to be used in stimulating debates on the subject in the 32 partner schools. With a view to the sustainability of the project and from the perspective of training multiplier agents, the project team will promote training actions aimed at teachers and NGOs, with a view to the future replication of the program, in addition to holding consultation sessions for these professionals. The project will also implement awareness-raising actions aimed at strategic audiences."
