Project Participo! promoted a Final Forum about the low civic and political participation of women

On June 20, 2022, at 18h30, the project "Participate!", funded by the financial mechanism EEA Grants Portugal operated by CIG - Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality and promoted by União de Freguesias de Aldoar, Foz do Douro e Nevogilde, developed the Final Forum of its project.

The purpose of this event was the presentation of the work developed in the scope of the working group activity. This group was created to promote reflection and discussion focused on a complex social problem which is the low civic and political participation of women.

For this purpose, several entities and local actors were invited such as Associação de Ludotecas do Porto; Associação de Moradores do Bairro de Aldoar; Associação de Moradores do Bairro Social da Pasteleira – Torres Vermelhas; Centro de Estudos Sociais – Universidade Coimbra / Promundo Portugal; Centro de Vida Independente – Porto; CLIP- Oporto Internacional School; Deputies of the Parishes Assembly: Bloco de Esquerda, PSD e “Porto, o nosso Partido”; CIIE- Centro de Investigação e Intervenções Educativas da Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação de Universidade do Porto; Escola Superior de Educação Paula Frassinetti; Federação Nacional das Associações Juvenis – Delegação do Porto; Movimento Transformers; Movimento Cresce e Aparece; Rede Inducar; Parishes of Aldoar, Foz do Douro e Nevogilde; Universidade Católica Portuguesa do Porto.

All these partners, since the first session of the Working Group in December 2020 and throughout 16 months and 18 sessions, were willing to discuss which obstacles hinder female participation, this information is present in the previously created document Mapping Obstacles to Women's Civic and Political Participation, In this second moment and based on this mapping the group was focused on finding solutions to these barriers identified, these moments of reflection and sharing are now reflected in the Proposed Solutions to Women's Civic and Political Participation, a document that was created with the contribution of all and intends to be only a starting point for action.

This moment also included the presentation of the international partner of Participo!, the European Center for Women and Technology, which was represented by Nancy Brito, who throughout her speech demonstrated the progress of the Norwegian country in gender equity.
