What is the project about?

The Free Choices project - Stereotypes are not my gender: vocational and professional choices free of prejudice has as main objective to create and implement a program to prevent gender stereotypes and promote gender equality, focused on vocational and professional choices, with young people from the 7th grade onwards in schools in the regions of Porto and Setúbal. Additionally, the project will contribute to the awareness raising of other young people through an international campaign, to scientific knowledge and training of professionals in this area.

It is an Open Call #2 project: Projects to combat sex segregation in educational and professional choices and discrimination in the labour market

Working together for an inclusive Europe

Results

This project aimed to prevent gender stereotypes in young people's vocational and career choices. The following actions were carried out:

  • A primary prevention programme on gender stereotypes was implemented in schools in the districts of Porto and Setúbal, with 360 sessions and 596 student participants.
  • An online campaign titled “Stereotypes are not my gender” was launched, with content disseminated via Instagram, TikTok, and a dedicated website.
  • A Good Practices Manual was developed and shared with education professionals, focused on preventing gender stereotypes in young people's vocational and career choices.
  • An infographic was created to present the findings of a study involving 917 young people and 4 focus groups, titled Study on Young People's Perceptions and Opinions on Personal Attributes and Vocational and Career Choices of Men and Women.
  • An External Evaluation Report was produced, confirming the positive impact of the intervention on young people's perceptions of gender stereotypes.
  • A podcast, a photo gallery, and a feature report were produced for the TV programme “Terra Europa” – RTP3.
  • The intervention also included training for education professionals and knowledge exchange with national and international partners.
